ISO 10130 Nitrosamines Detection and Determination of N-nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA) in Cosmetics by HPLC, Post Column Photolysis and Derivatization

ISO 10130 describes a method for the detection and quantification of N‑nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA) in cosmetics and raw materials used in cosmetics by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) combined with post-column photolysis and derivatisation.

ISO 10130 Nitrosamines Detection and Determination of N-nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA) in Cosmetics by HPLC, Post Column Photolysis and Derivatization

This ISO standard does not apply to the detection and/or quantification of non-NDELA nitrosamines or to the detection and/or quantification of NDELA in products other than cosmetics or cosmetic raw materials.

If a product has the possibility of NDELA contamination from the ingredients or the formation of NDELA from the composition of the ingredients, the method will be applied for testing cosmetic products and is an alternative to ISO 15819. This method is not applicable to matrices containing oxidation dyes.

The presence of NDELA can be confirmed by repeating the analysis without photolysis (no nitrite ion is produced as the N-itroso bond is not cleaved). The absence of a chromatographic peak at the retention time of NDELA in the chromatogram confirms that the peak observed in the initial analysis corresponds to NDELA.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of chemical testing services, there are also ISO 10130 standard tests.
