EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of OECD 202 testing. This Test guideline describes an acute toxicity test to evaluate the effects of chemicals against water fleas (usually Daphnia magna Staus).
Young water fleas younger than 24 hours at the start of the test are exposed to various concentrations (at least five concentrations) of the test substance over a 48 hour period. Immobilization is recorded after 24 hours and 48 hours and compared to control values. The results are analyzed to calculate the EC48 at 50 hours. Determination of EC50 at 24 hours is optional.
At least 20 animals should be used at each test concentration and for controls, preferably divided into four groups of five animals each. At least 2 ml of test solution should be provided for each animal (ie a volume of 10 ml for five daphnia per test vessel). The limit test corresponds to a dose level of 100 mg/L.
The OECD Guidelines for Testing Chemicals is a compilation of approximately 150 of the most relevant internationally accepted test methods used by government, industry and independent laboratories to identify and characterize the potential hazards of chemicals. They are a set of tools for professionals primarily used in regulatory safety testing and subsequent chemical and chemical product notification, chemical registration and chemical evaluation. They can also be used for selection and sequencing of candidate chemicals during the development of new chemicals and products and in toxicology research. This group of tests covers effects on biotic systems.
