EN 1275 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Suspension Assay Test for Evaluation of Basic Fungicide Efficacy of Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1275 testing. This European standard specifies a test method and minimum requirements for the basic fungicidal or basic yeasticidal activity of chemical disinfectant and antiseptic products that when diluted with water form a homogeneous, physically stable preparation.

EN 1275 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Suspension Assay Test for Evaluation of Basic Fungicide Efficacy of Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics

Because some dilution is always produced by adding test organisms and water, products can only be tested at a concentration of 80 percent or less.

This European standard applies to active substances (antifungal biocides) and formulations under development that are intended for use in the food, industrial, domestic and institutional, medical and veterinary fields. It also applies to the evaluation of the fungicidal or fungicidal efficacy of chemical antiseptics and disinfectants where appropriate European standards are not available.

A sample of the product as delivered (highest test concentration = 80%) or diluted with water is added to a test suspension of fungi (yeast cells or mold spores). The mixture is held at (20 ± 1)°C for 15 minutes ± 10s (forced test conditions). At the end of this contact period, an aliquot is removed and the fungicidal or fungistatic activity in that portion is immediately neutralized or suppressed by an approved method. The preferred method is dilution-neutralization. If a suitable neutralizer cannot be found, membrane filtration is used. The number of living fungi in each sample is determined and the reduction is calculated.

All chemical weights given in this European standard refer to anhydrous salts. As an alternative, hydrated forms can be used, but the required weights should be adjusted to allow for subsequent molecular weight differences.

Reagents shall be of analytical purity or suitable for microbiological purposes. They must not contain substances that are toxic or inhibitory to test organisms.
