Hemolytic Effect Tests

Hemolytic means the breakdown of red blood cells. Some diseases, medications, and toxins cause red blood cells to break down faster than normal. Red blood cells develop in the bone marrow, the spongy tissue inside bones. The body normally destroys old or faulty red blood cells in the spleen or other parts of the body through a process called hemolysis.

Hemolytic Effect Tests

Hemolytic anemia is a common type of blood disorder that occurs when the body has fewer red blood cells than normal. In hemolytic anemias, the low red blood cell count is due to the destruction of red blood cells rather than insufficient production.

A complete blood count test helps diagnose hemolytic anemia and gives some clues about the type and cause of the problem. Important parts of this test include red blood cell count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. These tests determine the type of hemolytic anemia. Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells provide oxygen to body tissues. Normally, red blood cells stay in the body for about 120 days. In hemolytic anemia, red blood cells in the blood are destroyed earlier than normal. Bone marrow is the soft tissue in the center of bones that helps in the formation of all blood cells. Hemolytic anemia occurs when the bone marrow does not produce enough red cells to replace those that have been destroyed.

Red blood cells can be destroyed for:

  • A problem where the immune system mistakenly sees its own red blood cells as foreign substances and destroys them
  • genetic defects in red cells
  • Exposure to certain chemicals, drugs, and toxins
  • infections
  • blood clots in small blood vessels
  • Taking blood from a donor who does not match the person's blood type

In advanced laboratories, hemolytic effect tests are carried out. In these tests, the effects caused by drugs and chemicals taken from outside are determined. When blood cells are destroyed quickly, the body needs extra folic acid and iron supplements to replace what it has lost.

Our organization also provides hemolytic effect testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
