ISO 16000-31 specifies a test method for the sampling and analysis of phosphoric acid esters in indoor air and test room air by means of gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Both basic methods of low resolution mass spectrometry and high resolution mass spectrometry are described.
Emissions measurements are made with building products and consumer goods under controlled climatic conditions to determine substance-specific release rates. Room air measurement is performed in a dust-free atmosphere to enable a simplified sampling procedure without particle separation. With regard to room volume, air exchange rate and sample volume, care should be taken to ensure that the sampling volume is smaller than the amount of air supplied. Sample preparation, and particularly sample storage, should be coordinated with test chamber measurement.
Enrichment of the substances to be analyzed from indoor air takes place on a glass fiber filter and PU foam under the sampling head application as described in ISO 16000-13. This is how the particle bound and gaseous OPC is sampled.
The internal standard should preferably be applied prior to sampling. If this proves impossible in justified circumstances, the internal standard can also be added prior to extraction and a corresponding note should be entered in the test report.
The chamber is cleaned before the emission measurement begins. Chamber cleaning is then documented with a blank measurement.
