ISO 3165 Industrial Use - Testing for Chemical Products

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 3165 testing. It gives general recommendations applicable to all processes, regardless of the nature of the material sampled. It is about safe access to the place where the sample was taken and a safe workplace with adequate safety arrangements.

ISO 3165 Industrial Use - Testing for Chemical Products

Contains specific recommendations for dangerous products. The physical and chemical properties may be such that they have a direct physiological effect or that there are risks of fire or explosion during handling. A general classification of risks is listed.

Sampling points in fixed installations should be arranged to meet these needs as well as the special conditions arising from the nature of the material being sampled. Precautions shall be taken against falls and collapse of stacked containers or solids in bulk when the sample is taken from the top of a tank or tank vehicle.

This is especially true for sampling fluid from taps where keeping the tap in an open position may result in large amounts of liquid escaping. It is recommended that devices used for this type of sampling be arranged to limit the total amount withdrawn at any one time and to limit the flow rate to an appropriate value.

In the case of liquids, it makes sense to assume spills will occur and to provide both a drainage trough to safely hold spills and a permanent splash guard to protect a tundish and sampler.

For liquids and gases, it should be ensured that the sampling point is isolated as much as possible from the stack or line by a valve close to, but not immediately adjacent to, the sampling point so that flow can be controlled in the event of an accident.

When it is necessary to clean or rinse a sample container with the material to be sampled and this material presents a hazard, appropriate facilities should be provided for the disposal of the material used in the disposal. Gases should be removed from the vicinity of the sampler and other personnel.

Equipment, including all instruments and containers, shall be compatible with the material being sampled and fit for its intended use. For example, the sample container must be tightly closed and equipped with a pressure relief. Samples should be kept away from other chemical products that may interact with them.
