EN ISO 11290-2 Microbiology of the Food Chain - Horizontal Method for Detection and Enumeration of Listeria Monocytogenes and Listeria SPP

• Census of Listeria species. (including L. monocytogenes).

This standard applies to:

• Products intended for human consumption and animal nutrition; and

Additionally, it is possible that some Listeria species identified cannot be enumerated or verified by this method.

Due to the wide variety of food and feed products, this horizontal method may not be suitable in every detail for some products where different or specific methods may be required. However, in any case, this horizontal method is intended to be applied as far as possible, and deviations from it are made only for justified technical reasons.

The next time this standard is reviewed, all available information at that time will be taken into account regarding the extent to which this horizontal method was followed and, in the case of certain products, the reasons for deviations from it.

Harmonization of test methods cannot be immediate and for certain product groups International Standards or national standards may already exist that do not conform to this horizontal method. It is hoped that when such standards are reviewed, they will be modified to conform to this document and eventually the only remaining deviation from this horizontal method will be those necessary for well-known technical reasons.
