ISO 16000-25 Indoor Air - Part 25: Determination of Emission of Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds by Construction Products - Micro-Chamber Method Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 16000-25 testing. ISO 16000-25 specifies a test method for determining the emission rate of site-specific semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) using a microchamber from newly produced building products or furniture under defined climatic conditions.

In principle, the method can also be applied to obsolete products. This measurement method applies to products and materials such as board materials, wallpapers, flooring materials, insulation materials, adhesives, paints and their combinations.

Sampling, transport and storage of materials to be tested and preparation of test samples are specified in ISO 16000-11. Air sampling and analytical methods for the determination of SVOCs are specified in ISO 16000-6 and ISO 16017-1.

The measurement method specified in this part of ISO 16000 is applicable to products used in construction such as sheet materials, wallpapers, flooring materials, insulation materials, adhesives, paints and combinations thereof.

The principle of the test is to determine the site-specific emission rates of SVOCs emitted from the surface of a product test sample. Although SVOCs are released in the microchamber, the majority of these emissions are adsorbed in the chamber at temperatures of 40°C or below. Therefore, in this test, the area-specific emission rate of SVOC for a test building material is determined from the mass collected in the first and second steps. The result of the test is the average emission rate of SVOCs from the product over a 24-hour period. For specific purposes, the emission rate in a different time period can be determined using the same procedure but varying the duration of the first step.
