A sample is decomposed with sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid in a pressurization vessel so that the silicon nitride is converted to the ammonium salt, and boric acid is then added to it. The final solution is transferred to a distillation flask. Sodium hydroxide is added to the flask and steam distilled, and the ammonia distillate is absorbed into a suitable amidosulfonic acid. The remaining amidosulfonic acid is titrated with sodium hydroxide.
