EU Method B.1 Tris Acute Toxicity - Acute Toxic Class Method Test

The method uses three fixed doses sufficiently separated to allow ranking of a compound based on the results of the study. Furthermore, the procedure described in this test method allows the selection of three additional fixed doses, which can be used as alternative options at given decision points or as options for further testing. Additional doses may be considered if further improvement is desired or required.

The substance is administered orally to a group of experimental animals at one of the defined doses. The substance is tested using a stepwise procedure using three animals of one sex at each step. No preliminary investigation is required.

Healthy young adult animals are randomly selected, marked to allow for individual identification, and housed in their cages for at least 5 days prior to the start of testing to accommodate laboratory conditions. Animals may be group-caged by sex and dose, but the number of animals per cage should not preclude clear observations of each animal.
