Potash Caustic Analysis

Potash caustic is an alkaline product produced by electrolysis of an aqueous solution of potassium chloride. It is a strong alkali with acute toxicity and corrosiveness. It is classified as a dangerous substance.

It is corrosive to the eyes and skin, so protective gear such as safety glasses, rubber gloves and rubber boots should always be worn. It generates heat when diluting or neutralizing the acid, so a small amount of potassium hydroxide liquid is added while mixing. Never add water or acid to a concentrated potassium hydroxide solution because there is a danger of explosive boiling.
