TCLP need not be run if aggregate analysis of the effluent indicates that individual analytes are not present in the effluent or that they are present but at concentrations so low that appropriate regulatory levels are likely to be exceeded.

If analysis of any of the liquid fractions of the TCLP extract shows that a regulated compound is present in concentrations that high, it means that the concentration will be above the regulatory level, even after accounting for dilution from other fractions of the extract. The compound is then waste hazardous and it is not necessary to analyze the remaining fractions of the extract.

If the extract analysis using a vial extractor shows that the concentration of any regulated volatile analyte exceeds the regulatory level for that compound, the waste is hazardous and extraction using ZHE is not necessary.

However, the extract from a vial extractor cannot be used to show that the concentration of volatile compounds is below the regulatory level.
