ISO 6579-1 Microbiology of the Food Chain - Test for Salmonella Detection, Enumeration and Serotyping

Applies to:

  • Environmental examples in food production and food processing;
  • Samples from the primary production stage, such as animal feces, powder, and swabs.

With this horizontal method, it is aimed to detect most of the Salmonella serovars. Additional culture steps may be required to detect some specific serovars. Described for Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi.

Selective enrichment medium modified semi-solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV) agar is designed for the detection of motile Salmonella and is not suitable for the detection of non-motile Salmonella strains.
