The polyester fiber is dissolved from a known dry mass of the mixture with a reagent consisting of phenol and tetrachloroethane. The residue is collected, washed, dried and weighed; the corrected mass if necessary, expressed as a percentage of the dry mass of the mixture. The percentage of polyester is found by the difference.

The harmful effects of this reagent should be kept in mind and all precautions should be taken during use. Treatment with this reagent should be done in a fume hood or hood.

Methods for the quantitative analysis of fiber blends are based on two main processes, manual separation of fibers and chemical separation.

It is preferable to use the manual separation method whenever possible, as it generally gives more accurate results than the chemical method. For example, in the case of yarns consisting of several elements, each consisting of only one type of fiber, or woven fabrics in which the fiber is the fiber, the component fibers can be used for all textiles that do not form a close blend. Warp is a different type from weft or dissolvable knitted fabrics made up of different types of threads.
