NP-6 Surfactant Analysis

NP-6 surfactant is a nonionic surfactant for use in cleaners and degreasers, dry cleaning, agrochemicals and adhesives. It acts as a wetting agent, stabilizer, excellent emulsifier and binds detergent series nonionics to hydrocarbon systems. NP-6 surfactant is also used in oilfield drilling and production formulations.

Nonylphenol ethoxylate (NP-6) is a transparent, colorless and form liquid raw material with a distinctive odor. This chemical is used as a nonionic surfactant in all cleaning jobs. It is used as an industrial cleaner and emulsifier in the detergent industry, textile industry, car care products and many more.

Nonylphenol ethoxylates are non-ionic surfactants consisting of ethylene oxide and nonylphenol adduct. The physical appearance of these compounds ranges from clear or slightly hazy, colorless liquids to white solids, depending on the level of ethoxylation. Up to six molecules of nonylphenol ethoxylates are dispersible in water. Ethoxylates of seven molecules or more are generally soluble in water and also soluble in most polar solvents. In general, the water solubility value, pour point, cloud point, density, viscosity and flash point of the ethoxylate increase with the increase in the ethylene oxide chain attached to the nonylphenol hydrophobe.

Nonylphenol ethoxylates are widely used as excellent emulsion stabilizers. It has good solubility in the presence of electrolytes and caustic. Nonylphenol ethoxylates have a high hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, emulsifier and dispersant. It can be used in industrial and institutional cleaners, agrochemicals, and textile and leather processing. Nonylphenol ethoxylates can also be used in ether sulfates and ether carboxylates, cosmetics, and other industrial and agricultural applications.

A wide variety of surfactants such as emulsifiers, foaming agents and wetting agents are used according to their usage areas. It is used in agrochemical formulations such as some herbicides, insecticides and biocides (disinfectants). It is also used in personal care products such as cosmetics, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and toothpaste.

Surfactants are used in firefighting and pipelines as fluid friction reducers. Surfactants are sometimes added to car engine oils, which greatly help prevent particles from sticking to engine parts.
