Microorganisms accepted as specified in ISO 21150 may differ from country to country according to national practices or regulations.
ISO 21150 specifies a method based on the detection of Escherichia coli in a non-selective liquid medium (enrichment water) followed by isolation on a selective agar medium. Depending on the level of detection required, other methods may be appropriate.
Due to the wide variety of cosmetic products in this field of application, this method may not be suitable for every detail of some products (eg some water-immiscible products). Other International standards may be more appropriate.
