The IEC 61482-1-1 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the properties and test methods of protective clothing against thermal hazards of the electric arc. This standard has also been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN IEC 61482-1-1 Working under voltage - Protective clothing against thermal hazards of the electric arc - Part 1-1: Test methods - Method 1: Using an open arc determination of arc declaration values (ELIM, ATPV and / or EBT) of garment materials and protective clothing.
The standard provides test methods for determining the arc rating of flame-resistant clothing and clothing, intended for use by workers, in the event of an electrical arc hazard. Open arc under controlled laboratory conditions during tests is used to determine ELIM, ATPV or EBT values of materials or clothing assemblies. If desired, the protection levels are classified according to the ELIM, ATPV or EBT values best suited to the different hazard and risk levels arising from the user's risk analysis. However, this standard is not intended to classify the arc protective performance of materials or clothing. The procedures that determine the arc protection classes are presented in the IEC 61482-1-2 standard, which uses a limited arc for testing.
The test method presented in the IEC 61482-1-1 standard is also not suitable for evaluating whether materials or clothing are flame resistant. Likewise, other effects, other than thermal effects of the electric arc, such as noise, light emissions, pressure increase, hot oil, electric shock, consequences of physical and mental shock, or toxic effects, are not covered by this standard.
