The IEC 61482-1-2 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the properties and test methods of protective clothing against thermal hazards of the electric arc. This standard has also been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN IEC 61482-1-2 Working under voltage - It will wear protective against thermal hazards arising from electric arc - Part 1-2: Test methods - Method 2: Compressed and directed Determination of the material and clothing arc protection class using an arc (box test).
The standard in question, in the event of an electric arc hazard, is used for the heat and flame resistant clothing that is intended to be used by the employees,Offers test methods for r. During tests, a directed and restricted electric arc is used to classify the material and clothing in two defined arc protection classes. This international standard is not only intended for measuring ATPV, ELIM or EBT arc ratings. The processes that determine these arc ratings are included in the IEC 61482-1-1 standard, which uses an open arc for testing.
Apart from thermal effects such as noise, light emissions, pressure increase, hot oil, electric shock, consequences of physical and mental shock, or toxic effects, electric arc does not fall within the scope of this standard, as in IEC 61482-1-1. Also, protective clothing such as arc welding and plasma torch, which are used to operate deliberately using electric arc, are also outside the scope of this standard.
In the application of the standard IEC 61482-1-2, the normative reference is made to the following standard and is indispensable for its application: ISO 9151 Protective clothing - Heat and flame protection - Method of determination of heat transfer in flame exposure.
