Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO 11611 standard has been published to explain the properties and testing methods of protective clothing used in welding and related processes. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 11611 Protective clothing - Used in welding and related processes.
The standard includes minimum basic safety rules and test methods for protective clothing such as aprons, sleeves, hoods and leggings, including headgear and leggings, designed to protect the user's body and to be worn during potentially hazardous welding processes. This standard applies only to headgear and leggings, as it protects the wearer's head and feet in particular, it does not cover the dangers of protecting hands and arms.
Such protective clothing is designed to protect the worker from radiant heat from an electric arc used in welding work and to protect it from small splashes of molten metal and short-term flame contact. It also minimizes the possibility of electric shock through short-term contact with live electrical conductors at voltages up to approximately 100 volts direct current under normal welding conditions.
Personal protective equipment covered by other international standards must be worn separately for adequate general protection against the risks to which welders will be exposed. In the application of this standard, ISO 2801 standard, which includes instructions for the selection, use and maintenance of heat and flame protective clothing, should be taken into account (TSE ISO / TR 2801 Heat and fire protective clothing - General rules for the selection, care and use of protective clothing).
