Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO 14877 standard has been published to describe the resistance properties and test methods of protective clothing to the grainy abrasive spraying process. This standard has also been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 14877 will wear protective for abrasive spraying using granulated abrasives.
Those who work in the process (scraper) applied to roughen wood or other materials are exposed to the hazards caused by the substances that occur during abrasion. Depending on the operating conditions, it is necessary to wear suitable protective clothing and appropriate respiratory protective equipment to protect against these hazards. This standard for clothing connected to respiratory protective devices takes into account the properties of respiratory protective equipment. In fact, this standard is based on a European standard.
The ISO 14877 standard describes minimum requirements and test methods for processing protective clothing for hand protection during abrasive blasting operations, compressed air or mechanically advancing granular abrasive surfaces.. The connections between protective clothing and respiratory protective device for protection against substances arising during the blasting process are also within the scope of this standard. However, this standard does not cover steam spray, jet spray and flame spray processes.
A few standards that are referenced and indispensable in the implementation of the ISO 14877 standard are: EN 270 (compressed air line respiratory protective devices containing hood), EN 271 (electric clean air hose respirators with a hood for use in compressed air line or abrasive blast operations) , EN 340 (protective clothing), EN 388 (protective gloves against mechanical risks) and EN 420 (general requirements for gloves).
