The ISO 6530 standard was designed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to describe the liquid penetration properties and test methods of protective clothing. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 6530 Protective clothing - Protection against liquid chemicals - Test method for the resistance of materials to liquid penetration.

The said standard describes a test method for measuring the permeation, absorption and repellency criteria of protective clothing materials against liquid chemicals and compounds, especially low volatility chemicals.
Penetration, or penetration, is a physical process by which a liquid passes through the pores or holes in the fabric and into the fabric.
In the tests carried out in accordance with the ISO 6530 standard, the protective fabric is placed in a 45 degree inclined groove covered with an absorbent material and 10 ml of liquid is poured on the sample fabric within 10 seconds. Any liquid that penetrates the fabric within 1 minute is expressed as a percentage of the amount spilled. In the tests performed according to the said standard, both liquid penetration and liquid repellency of protective fabrics are determined. Penetration results for each chemical substance are shown in three different performance classes. Penetration is considered as first class if below 10 percent, second class if below 5 percent, and third class if below 1 percent. Absorption index refers to the percentage of test liquid that is retained in the fabric but does not penetrate the fabric.
