Spunbond Fabric Tests - Waterproof Test

In general, spunbond fabrics are characterized by tensile, tear and burst strength, elongation at break, weight, thickness, porosity and stability against heat and chemicals. These properties reflect the composition and structure of the spunbond fabric.

Spunbond Fabric Tests - Waterproof Test

Nonwoven fabrics are defined as web structures made by bonding or interlocking fibers or filaments with mechanical, thermal, chemical or solvent means. The efforts made in fiber production today are evidence of the growth predicted for the use of synthetic fibers in nonwovens.

The spunbond technique, namely the spun bonding technique, offers superior tensile properties in the weight of the fabric. Process modifications such as the filament device used, crimp, cross-section, degree of bonding, and the like, often provide the properties required to meet end-use requirements.

Spunbond webs (spunbond fabrics) find application in various end uses. In the early 1970s, spunbond fabric was mainly used for durable applications such as home textiles, furniture, bedding and geo textiles. Single use applications started to increase in the 1980s. Diapers, covers for medical devices and medical masks started to be produced with lighter spun-bonded polypropylene nets. At this stage, the water repellency of nonwovens became more important.

As with other textile products, the waterproof properties of spunbond fabrics have started to be tested first according to the EN 20811 standard, which is a European standard, and then according to the ISO 811 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), which was canceled and replaced by this standard. These standards offer test methods for determining the water penetration resistance properties of textiles, and therefore spunbond fabrics. In our country, this standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) as TS EN ISO 811 Textile - Determination of resistance to water penetration - Hydrostatic pressure test standard. With this test method, a water-resistant or water-repellent finishing process has been applied or not, It is applied to all types of fabrics that are aimed to be water resistant.

Our organization, among numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, provides waterproofing test services within the scope of spunbond fabric testing services to demanding healthcare organizations and manufacturers within the framework of national and international standards.
