EN 1078, a European standard, defines the requirements and test methods for helmets produced for users of bicycles, skateboards and roller skates. This standard has a lower maximum G threshold than bicycle helmet standards such as CPSC, Snell B-95 or ASTM F1952. That is, helmets transmitting to more than 250 G heads during the impact test cannot exceed these standard requirements.
However, other standards allow up to 300 G. In this case, the low G value provides more protection. However, the test standards are different. Specifically, the EN 1078 standard requires four strokes per helmet, but these effects are not that strong. In this regard, some observers do not find these tests difficult and suggest that the EN 1078 standard does not provide much protection to the riders.
These European standard requirements and related test methods generally cover:
Helmets of all sizes are subjected to impacts at various speeds against various surfaces to determine the level of protection it provides.
The standard in question was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 1078 Helmets for bicycle, skateboard and roller skating users.
Within the scope of protective clothing tests, our organization also provides helmet testing services for TS EN 1078 Bicycle, skateboard and roller skating users.
