ASTM F1194-18 Standard Guide for Documenting Chemical Permeability Test Results of Materials Used in Protective Clothing

Encourage comprehensive and consistent documentation of the ASTM F1194-18 standard, permeability testing and results, published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) It is designed for. The full name of this standard is as follows: ASTM F1194-18 Standard guide for documenting chemical permeability test results of materials used in protective clothing.

ASTM F1194-18 Standard Guide for Documenting Chemical Permeability Test Results of Materials Used in Protective Clothing

Uniform information and performance data, as required by this standard, allow direct comparison of one protective clothing with another and enable the selection of the appropriate chemical protective clothing material. At the same time, a standard format for test information and data contained in this standard encourages the storage of test results on the computer for easy access, comparison and correlations.

The ASTM F1194-18 standard provides a standard format for documenting information and performance data obtained from a permeability test applied to protective clothing. The information and data documented in this way are divided into five basic groups that describe the important aspects of each test:

  • Protective clothing material
  • Test method
  • Test chemical
  • Test results, and
  • Source of data

The manual is simplified by adhering to the procedures contained in a standard test method.

This international standard has been developed on the basis of internationally accepted standardization principles set out in the international principles decision published by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade Committee.

Generally, chemical permeability is measured by exposing the outer surface of a fabric sample to the chemical substance for which it is tested. Meanwhile, the inner surface of the fabric sample is analyzed analytically to determine the amount of chemical substance passing through the fabric. Transition time is the time between the first exposure of the fabric to the chemical agent and the penetration rate reaching a standard value. The target penetration rate for tests performed in accordance with the standards is one microgram of chemical passing through every centimeter of fabric every minute. Transition time is a value by which the performance of different fabrics is compared.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides standard guide services to the demanding enterprises, within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff, to document the chemical permeability test results of the materials used in ASTM F1194-18 protective clothing.
