EN 12477 Test for Protective Gloves for Welders

This standard describes the required properties of gloves used for welding, cutting and similar techniques. The magnitude of the risks to welders' hands depends on the welding method employed. Therefore, the performance required for gloves will differ depending on the applications covered.

The EN 12477 standard provides two types of protective gloves: type A and type B. When better dexterity is required, B type is recommended, for example for tungsten gas arc welding. Apart from that, different requirements of protective gloves according to these two types are included in the standard. In addition, EN 1149-2 standard for electrical insulation, EN 388 standard for abrasion resistance, cut resistance, tear resistance and puncture resistance, EN 407 standard for combustion behavior, contact temperature, convective heat and metal splash resistance, and EN 420 standard for hand quickness. It applies.

Each glove that welders will use must be marked with the standard number followed by type A or type B.

Welding gloves are personal protective equipment that protects the welders' hands from welding hazards. These gloves protect the wearer from electric shock, excessive heat and ultraviolet and infrared radiation. It also provides wear resistance and improved grip. Welding gloves are typically an important part of personal protective equipment. Considering the proximity of the gloves to the welding process, special attention should be paid to their designs.

The standard in question has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 12477 Protective gloves for welders.
