EN 1149-1 Electrostatic Properties of Protective Clothing - Part 1: Test Method for Measurement of Surface Resistance

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1149-1 standard. This part of EN 1149 defines requirements for electrically conductive clothing. These garments, together with, for example, electrically conductive shoes, form part of a fully grounded system. These protective clothing prevent sparks and therefore explosions.

EN 1149-1 Electrostatic Properties of Protective Clothing - Part 1: Test Method for Measurement of Surface Resistance

This type of clothing is used in work environments with explosion and fire hazards. However, it is not suitable for working environments enriched with oxygen. It does not provide absolute protection against electric shock. In particular, companies that have to comply with ATEX directives must use clothing that complies with the EN 1149-5 standard.

ATEX is an acronym derived from the phrase ATmosphere Explosible. It is also the short name of the European Union directive 2014/34/EC on explosion-proof electrical and mechanical equipment, components and protective systems.

Clothing covered by the EN 1149 standard reduces the electrostatic charge of personnel and the formation of flammable static sparks. These protective clothing should be used in working environments where explosive atmospheres may occur. That standard describes the electrostatic requirements for clothing to prevent flammable discharges.

This standard specifies electrostatic requirements and test methods for protective clothing that consumes electrostatic energy to prevent incendiary discharges.

EN 1149-1 Protective clothing electrostatic properties testing services are also provided by our organization within the scope of protective clothing tests.
