EN 29073 Textile - Test Methods for Nonwoven Fabrics

The ISO 29073 standard has been designed by the International Organization for Standards (ISO) to describe the properties and test methods of nonwoven fabrics. The basis of this standard is the European Standard EN 29073. In our country, this standard was published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 29073 Textile - Test methods for non-woven fabrics.

EN 29073 Textile - Test Methods for Nonwoven Fabrics

Numerous test methods are applied by non-woven fabrics (non-woven surfaces) by advanced laboratories. For example, absorption, color fastness, abrasion, fiber analysis, water resistance permeability, hydrostatic pressure, grayscale for dyeing, air permeability, tear resistance, mass (weight), burst strength, rupture strength and elongation (adherence) are a few examples of these tests.

Nonwoven fabrics are one of the oldest and simplest textile fabrics. Non-woven fabrics are made directly from a fiber web, without yarn preparation required for weaving and knitting. In non-woven fabric, textile fibers are held together randomly. As with thermoplastic fibers, the fibers are fused with a substance such as starch, casein, rubber latex or synthetic resin.

When deciding which fiber is best suited for a particular application, the fiber properties should be evaluated in terms of their impact on the final quality of the nonwoven fabric.

The following methods have been developed for the qualitative evaluation of the properties of fibrous materials: longitudinal appearance and microscopic analysis of fiber sections, microchemical swelling and dissolution experiments, melting point determination, staining and infrared spectroscopy.

Numerous test systems have been created for the characterization of nonwovens by international standards organizations such as the International Organization for Standards (ISO), the British Standards Institute (BSI) and the American Testing and Materials Organization (ASTM) and industrial associations such as EDANA and AATCC.

Standard testing methods for nonwovens are suitable testing methods developed for reproducibility and provide reliable results for use in the exchange of nonwovens.

Within the framework of laboratory testing services, our company also provides testing services for EN 29073 nonwoven fabrics.
