EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 340 standard. The EN 340 standard describes the general performance requirements for ergonomics, harmlessness, size, sizing, aging, compatibility and marking of protective clothing, and the information to be provided by the manufacturer on protective clothing. This standard is not intended to be used alone, but only in conjunction with other relevant standards that contain requirements for certain protective performance.

EN 340 Protective Clothing - General Requirements and Specifications

This international standard has been prepared as a reference standard to be appropriately called by certain standards. Otherwise, it is not intended to be used alone. It is used in conjunction with an appropriate standard that contains requirements for the specific performance of any equipment used for protection.

There are different types of hazards according to the sector in which they operate. For example, chemical hazards, cold hazards, heat and fire hazards, mechanical hazards, biological agent hazards, or radiation hazards. According to the circumstances, some of these hazards arise from other hazards. Therefore, there are a number of hazards for which separate test methods are used.

Special clothing is designed to provide protection for the hazards encountered in certain types of activities. For example, trousers for use with chainsaws, aprons that protect against hand knives, special clothing that protects against chemicals, or high-visibility clothing.

The EN 340 standard also includes some basic health and ergonomic requirements for many types of protective clothing. Protective clothing must adversely affect the health or hygiene of the wearer. Materials used in manufacture must not, under foreseeable conditions in normal use, release substances that are generally known to be toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, allergenic or otherwise harmful.
