EN 14605 Standard Test Method for Protective Clothing Against Liquid Chemicals

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 14605 testing. The EN 14605 standard, a European standard, regulates the requirements for full body protective clothing or clothing providing full protection (closed connections between different parts of the suit, if any).

EN 14605 Standard Test Method for Protective Clothing Against Liquid Chemicals

Chemical protective clothing is divided into groups according to certain applications. In the EN 14605 standard, this classification is made as follows:

  • Type 3: Chemical protective suits with liquid tight fittings;
  • Type 4: Chemical protective suit with spray proof connection;
  • Type PB3: protective clothing for parts of the body with liquid-tight connections;
  • Type PB4: Protective clothing for parts of the body with spray-proof connections.

In accordance with that standard, the test requirements for protective clothing include: Abrasion resistance, flex crack resistance, flex crack resistance at 30°C, tear strength, tensile strength, puncture resistance and resistance to penetration by liquids.

The requirements of this clause apply to the suit as a whole, including component parts that are not integrated into the suit (for example, gloves, boots, headgear or respirators). While the connections and assemblies connecting these components are within the scope of this standard, the criteria for the components are given in other European standards.

Prior to testing, chemical protective clothing should be cleaned if the manufacturer's instructions indicate that cleaning is permitted. The manufacturer's instructions regarding the number of cleaning cycles, cleaning procedures and possible re-administration of treatments should be followed. If the maximum number of cleaning cycles is not specified, garments must go through five cleaning cycles.
