ISO 11810 Lasers and Laser Related Equipment - Test Method and Classification for Laser Resistance of Surgical Drapes and / or Patient Protective Covers

Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO 11810 standard provides a test method that covers disposable and reusable as well as woven and non-woven materials used as surgical drapes and other patient protective drapes claimed to be laser resistant. This standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) in our country with the following title: TS EN ISO 11810 Lasers and laser-related equipment - Classification and test method of laser resistance for surgical drapes and / or patient protective covers - Primary ignition, penetration, flame spread and secondary ignition.

ISO 11810 Lasers and Laser Related Equipment - Test Method and Classification for Laser Resistance of Surgical Drapes and / or Patient Protective Covers

The purpose of this international standard is to provide a test method for testing and classifying surgical drapes and other patient protective drapes for laser induced hazards. There is also a classification system in this standard. The purpose of this standard is not to serve as a general fire safety specification. Therefore, this standard does not include any other ignition sources. This test method is also used to evaluate laser induced flammability properties of non-laser resistant items.

Some laser applications used in medicine require laser-resistant surgical covers or other patient protective covers. When performing a sterile procedure and the surrounding area needs to be protected from liquids, secreted material and unintentional laser radiation, surgical drapes or other patient protective drapes should be used. Conventional surgical drapes or other patient protective drapes are not necessarily laser resistant.

However, specially designed surgical drapes offer the possibility of laser resistance. The main risks from laser are ignition, flammability, melting, penetration, thermal transfer, and reflection. Textile and non-woven cover materials can provide a laser barrier, although other risks. There are many potential firing devices in the operating room, but this test method is for the laser ignition source only.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides testing services for the laser resistance of ISO 11810 Lasers and laser related equipment - surgical drapes and / or patient protective covers within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff.
