ISO 14116 specifies performance requirements for the limited flame-emitting properties of all materials, all material groups and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of the clothing burning and thus creating a hazard when it comes into contact with small flames occasionally and for short periods of time.
Protective clothing conforming to ISO 14116 is intended to protect workers against occasional and brief contact with small flames of flame, where there is no significant heat hazard and no other type of heat is present.
Additional requirements for garments are also specified, including design requirements, mechanical requirements, marking, and information provided by the manufacturer.
This international standard is not suitable when protection against heat hazards is required in addition to flame protection. Instead, international standards such as ISO 11612 will be used.
