ISO 15025 Protective Clothing - Flame Protection - Test Method for Limited Flame Spread

ISO 15025 specifies two procedures (surface ignition and bottom edge ignition) for determining the flame propagation properties of vertically oriented flexible materials in the form of single or multi-component fabrics (coated, quilted, multilayered, sandwich structures and similar combinations) when exposed.

This test standard does not apply where other test methods are more suitable, restricted air supply or exposure to large sources of intense heat.

This test method is not suitable for materials that exhibit excessive melting or shrinkage.

The burner is placed perpendicular to the fabric surface. Flame is applied for 10 seconds and the following information is observed and recorded:

• Whether the flame has reached the upper limit of the sample or any limit
• Post-burn time
• Post-incandescent time
• If it spreads beyond the flared area after incandescence
• peeling off residues
• Filter paper where residues are not ignited
• Whether there is a hole and in which layer

The burner is placed at an angle of 30° to the vertical axis. The distance between the burner edge and the bottom edge of the fabric should be 20 mm ± 2 mm. Flame is applied for 10 seconds and prior information except g) should be observed and recorded.
