ISO 22609 primarily deals with the performance of materials or certain material structures used in medical face masks. The test method does not consider the performance of the medical face mask's design, construction, interfaces, or other factors that may affect the overall protection and operation (such as filtration efficiency and pressure drop) the medical face mask offers.
ISO 22609 does not consider the performance of medical face masks as protection against contamination via airborne exposure routes or as prevention of penetration of aerosolized body fluids that have accumulated on the medical face mask.
