ISO 6529 Protective Clothing - Protection Against Chemical Substances - Determination of the Resistance of Protective Clothing Materials to Liquid and Gas Penetration

The ISO 6529 standard, published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the requirements and test methods for determining the resistance of materials used in protective clothing, including gloves and shoes, to penetration by liquid or gaseous chemicals under continuous conditions. Under this standard, shoes are shoes that are an integral part of protective clothing. The full name of this standard is as follows: ISO 6529 Protective clothing - Protection against chemicals - Determination of the resistance of protective clothing materials to liquid and gas penetration.

The following three test methods are presented in this standard:

  • Method A is a test method applied against volatile or water-soluble liquid chemicals that are expected to be in constant contact with the protective clothing material.
  • Method B is a test method applied against gaseous chemicals that are expected to be in constant contact with the protective clothing material.
  • Method C is a test method applied against volatile or water-soluble gaseous and liquid chemicals that are expected to be in intermittent contact with the protective clothing material.

In all three test methods, the permeability resistance, transition time, permeability rate and cumulative permeability values of the protective clothing material under laboratory conditions are determined. At the same time, with these test methods, the effects of the chemicals used in the tests on the tested material are qualitatively observed.

The test methods presented in the ISO 6529 standard are only suitable for measuring the permeability of liquids and gases and only address the performance of material structures, for example seams.

This standard allows fabrics to be tested regardless of whether they are somewhat breathable or completely airtight.

It also includes a normative annex that defines certain assumed procedures for testing, calculating and reporting permeation resistance.

With the experience gained over many years, our organization also provides test services to the demanding enterprises, within the framework of laboratory services of the materials with a trained and expert staff, to determine the resistance of protective clothing materials to the penetration of liquid and gaseous chemicals in accordance with ISO 6529 standardInhibitory.
