Strength Against ISO 811 Water Penetration - Hydrostatic Pressure Test

The ISO 811 standard has been published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) to describe the water penetration resistance properties and test methods of textile products. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 811 Textile - Determination of resistance against water penetration - Hydrostatic pressure test.

This standard offers a hydrostatic pressure test method to determine the resistance of fabrics to water penetration. This test method is applied to all kinds of fabrics, including fabrics that have been applied water-resistant or water-repellent finish.

Hydrostatic head pressure tester is used for these tests in advanced laboratories. This device is designed to detect the resistance of materials to penetration into water with the hydrostatic pressure method. With this device, standard test conditions are provided and the strength of the fabric against the passage of water from the tested fabric sample is measured.

The test method described in ISO 811 standard is valid for the fabrics used in the production of gloves, headgear, mask, clothing, overalls and gowns used for medical purposes. This test also includes fabrics used for impermeable applications such as tarpaulins, tents, waterproof materials and chemical protective clothing.

While performing the test, the fabric sample is fixed on the test head and the fabric face is contacted with water. The fabric is increasingly wetted or subjected to water pressure until penetration occurs in three places. In the third stage, the pressure at which water penetrates the fabric is recorded. Other fabric samples are tested in this way until the required number of satisfactory results is achieved.
