The EN 166 standard is a European standard for personal eye protection. This standard is a special safety norm. If a piece of glasses has the EN166 certificate, it means it is safe. EN 166, the main technical safety standard in Europe for eye protection, covers potential hazards to the eye, other than nuclear radiation, x-ray rays, laser emissions and infrared rays emitted by low temperature sources.
This standard describes minimum requirements for glasses, which are generally personal protective equipment. Compliance with EN 166 standard is of great importance in terms of security in the armed forces and industrial workplaces.
The tests carried out within the framework of EN 166 standard are: field of view, ignition resistance, optical transmission and diffusion, heat stability, durability, aging resistance, UV resistance and corrosion resistance.
This standard has defined different categories of personal eye protection:
The standard in question has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS 5560 EN 166 Personal eye protection - Features.
