EN ISO 17491-3 specifies a test method for determining the resistance of protective clothing to the penetration of a jet of liquid. EN ISO 17491-3 is applicable to clothing with liquid-tight connections between different parts of the suit and, if possible, between the suit and other pieces of personal protective equipment worn. EN ISO 17491-3 does not address the chemical permeation resistance of clothing materials specified in other standards.
This part of EN ISO 17491 describes a test method for determining the liquid penetration resistance of chemical protective clothing Type 3 (with liquid-tight connections between different parts of the clothing and, if applicable, between the clothing and other items of personal protective equipment).
Such garments consist of one or more parts covering the entire body surface and are intended to be worn in conditions where there is a risk of exposure to a strong spray of a liquid chemical. Interlaboratory testing has shown that this test method is a reproducible successful/permanent method.
A water jet containing a fluorescent or visible dye tracer is directed at the chemical protective suit worn by a human subject. Inspection of the inner surface of the garment worn under the protective suit and the outer surface of the absorbent coverall allows any point of infiltration to be detected.
