EN 1082-3, a European standard, defines the requirements and test methods for gloves and sleeves made of fabric, leather and other materials, between protective gloves and cuffs against blade cuts and sticks.
The test method in this standard is based on the impact penetration test in protective aprons for use with hand knives described in EN 412 standard. The difference is that the blade holding block and blade weigh 1000 grams instead of 110 grams. In addition, the test sample was changed in accordance with the test of fabric, leather and other materials. The test method here is specifically designed to evaluate the blade resistance of materials for gloves and arm guards.
This test is also suitable for assessing situations that threaten heavy wear gloves, motorcyclist gloves, work gloves used to carry concrete blocks or razor wire, or threats of garbage collectors' protective leggings and pants. Tests according to the EN 1082-3 standard are a process that includes severe wear and multiple cuts, and this test is a good indicator of the wear resistance of a material.
Tests covered by this European standard should be carried out by qualified and experienced people. The disclosed apparatus should only be used by authorized persons and, as far as reasonably practicable, requires safety measures to prevent injury to persons.
The standard in question has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 1082-3 Protective clothing - Protective gloves and sleeves against knife cuts and sticks - Part 3: Impact test for fabric, leather and other materials.
