TS EN 1149 Protective Clothing Electrostatic Properties

EN 1149, a European standard, defines the requirements for electrically conductive clothing. These garments, for example, together with electrically conducting shoes, form part of a fully grounded system. These protective clothing prevent sparks and therefore explosions. Garments produced in accordance with this standard are accepted only in conjunction with the TS EN ISO 11612 standard, which is the flame retardant clothing standard.

TS EN 1149 Protective Clothing Electrostatic Properties

This type of clothing is used in working environments where there is a risk of explosion and fire. However, it is not suitable for working environments enriched with oxygen. It does not provide absolute protection against electric shock. Especially companies that have to comply with ATEX directives must use clothing compliant with TS EN 1149-5 standard. ATEX is an abbreviation derived from the expression ATmosphere Explosible. It is also the short name of the European Union directive 2014/34 / EC on explosion-proof electrical and mechanical equipment, components and protective systems.

Clothing under the scope of TS EN 1149 standard reduces the electrostatic charge of the personnel and the formation of flammable static sparks. These protective clothing should be used in working environments where explosive atmospheres may occur. This standard describes the electrostatic requirements of clothing to prevent flammable discharges.

This series of standards, consisting of several chapters, has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following titles:

  • TS EN 1149-1 Protective clothing - Electrostatic properties - Part 1: Surface resistivity (test methods and rules)
  • TS EN 1149-2 Protective clothing - Electrostatic properties - Part 2: Test method for measuring the electrical resistance to the depth of the material (vertical resistance)
  • TS EN 1149-3 Protective clothing - Electrostatic properties - Part 3: Test method for measuring load attenuation
  • TS EN 1149-5 Protective clothing - Electrostatic properties - Part 5: Material performance and design requirements

Within the scope of protective clothing tests, TS EN 1149 Protective clothing electrostatic properties testing services are also provided by our organization.
