TS EN 13034 Wear Clothing Against Liquid Chemicals

The European standard, EN 13034, describes a test method for measuring the repellency, retention and penetration of a known volume of liquid chemical when applied to protective clothing. The degree of contamination during this test depends on many factors, such as the exposure to the liquid chemical, the method of application, and the formulation of the compound.

Since the exposure level will be significantly different, this test method is designed to evaluate the performance of protective clothing according to two different levels of contamination: low level of contamination and high level of contamination. This test method does not measure the resistance of the garment to permeability or deterioration.

Protective clothing that meets the EN 13034 standard should be used in workplaces where people working with liquid chemicals are at risk of coming into contact with them. This standard is for protection against liquid chemicals and relates to the splashes of liquid chemicals during use. In fact, the EN 13034 standard is somewhat complicated and details need to be known in its implementation.

Protective clothing in accordance with this standard provides limited protection against the effects of liquid aerosols and sprays in areas where the risk of chemical exposure is relatively low. The requirements of this standard are particularly focused on garment stitches and fabric finishing. Test criteria for these requirements include resistance to the entry of chemical liquids and sprays into garments.

The EN 13034 standard envisages the protection of protective clothing against splashes of the following four liquid chemicals: sulfuric acid (water soluble at 30 percent concentration), caustic soda (water soluble at 20 percent concentration), xylene and butanol.

The standard in question has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN 13034 Protective clothing against liquid chemicals - Performance rules for protective clothing that provides limited protection against liquid chemicals (type6 and type pb6 equipment).

Within the scope of protective clothing tests, TS EN 13034 provides protective clothing testing services against liquid chemicals.
