TS EN 13634 Protective Shoes for Motorcycle Users

The EN ISO 13634 standard, which describes the requirements and test methods for safety shoes produced for motorcyclists, is actually a European standard. This standard covers protective shoes used for motorcycle riding on and off the road.

The main requirements in the EN 13634 standard are protection, ergonomic features, no harm, mechanical features, marking and information criteria.

Using a motorcycle has now become a way of life for many people rather than just a form of transportation and entertainment. However, for any purpose, an important part of using a motorcycle is choosing the right shoe.

One of the important test methods are general design tests. The overall shoe design for motorcyclists must meet a number of requirements, such as the height of the upper part and the type of sewing structures. These tests are needed to assess the integrity and transverse stiffness of the shoe, including measuring the bond strength between the upper and the outsole.

Another test method is testing on components. These tests are carried out on the upper, lining and insole components of the shoe, and the pH value and chrome VI content of any leather material, the tear strength and abrasion resistance for the lining and the abrasion resistance for the insole sheets are determined in this way. All materials are also evaluated for water resistance.

Special protective tests at the top for protective shoes are subject to tests defined in the EN 13595 standard and impact cut resistance and wear resistance are evaluated.
