EN 17092, a European standard, defines the requirements and test methods for protective clothing designed for motorcycle riders. This standard includes all clothing used in conjunction with the EN 13595 standard, but offered to consumers as protective clothing for motorcyclists. For this reason, it includes a set of test methods, including jacket and trousers as well as one- and two-piece suits and aimed at evaluating the protection and integrity of these garments. The first part of the standard describes the test and inspection methods of protective clothing, and the other five sections describe the requirements for AAA, AA, A, B and C class clothing.
The main test methods in the EN 17092 standard are: impact wear resistance (Darmstadt method), seam strength, tear strength, impact energy absorption, dimensional stability, fit and ergonomics, and garment fastening. For example, elbow, shoulder, knee and hip impact protectors are a mandatory requirement in Class AAA and AA garments. Hip protectors are optional for A class clothes. Impact protectors should be placed on the garment to cover the body according to EN 1621 standard.
