This standard specifies general requirements for Class C motorcyclist protective clothing, worn as underwear or overwear, intended to provide limited protection to the wearer against injury resulting from impact. It is applied to protective clothing for motorcycle use on the road.
Exclusive to Class C clothing, the shellless impact protection suit is designed to hold only one or more impact protectors in place as underwear or overwear. EN 17092-6 clothing is designed to provide passive or active impact protection only for areas covered by impact protectors and does not provide full minimum protection against abrasion and may not offer full minimum impact protection depending on which impact protectors are included.
This standard is part of a series of standards including EN 17092-2, EN 17092-3, EN 17092-4 and EN 17092-5, which together define the requirements for motorcyclist clothing according to the various protection classes offered.
The principle of this standard is to define the essential performance requirements required for motorcyclists' protective clothing and to ensure that they can offer useful protection classes to drivers according to the risks that motorcyclists may encounter in various driving situations described above. This standard does not cover risks arising from extreme weather conditions. Where additional protective features are requested (e.g. high visibility), the evaluation of those protective features will be made according to appropriate additional standards.
