EN 343, a European standard, describes the requirements and methods of testing these requirements to protect against rain, fog, snow and moisture. Waterproof protective clothing complying with EN 343 standard is very important for outdoor work activities such as construction or assembly technology.
The standard promotes two high values: water resistance and water vapor resistance. This second feature is also called respiration capacity. Symbols indicating that this standard is complied with on protective clothing are expressed with X and Y values. The value X indicates the waterproof class and the value Y indicates the water vapor resistance class.
These protective clothing provides protection against precipitation, rain, fog and wind at temperatures of minus 5 degrees and higher.
The waterproof class and respiratory class are not interconnected. For example, a product may have strong waterproofness but less strong breathing capacity.
