TS EN 61482-1-2 Clothing to Wear Against Thermal Hazards Arising from Electric Arc

The blinding flash of electric arc flares can cause temporary or permanent eye damage. Radiated thermal radiation can cripple or kill a person. Hot air and metal vapors can cause severe burns. Inhaling evaporated metals can cause burns to internal organs. The resulting popping sound may cause hearing damage.

TS EN 61482-1-2 Clothing to Wear Against Thermal Hazards Arising from Electric Arc

It is not possible to survive without electricity in the modern age. However, by nature, electricity is both a vital need and a fatal danger. The impact, classification, and assessment of electrical hazards depends on many factors. However, it is absolutely necessary to comply with the basic safety rules to avoid the risks arising from the use of electrical systems and tools.

Safety rules for electrical systems and tools are generally grouped into three groups: they must be designed and manufactured for safe operation, used safely and periodically checked and safely repaired.

The basic condition for safe use is protective clothing. In the safety tests of these clothes, the box test defined in the standard 61482-1-2 is generally applied in European countries. While performing these tests, a fabric sample is exposed to an electric arc that lasts no more than 500 ms, and the amount of heat transmitted throughout the sample is measured during and after the test. Samples are also evaluated for post-flame hole formation, melting and similar effects.

This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN 61482-1-2 Working under voltage - It will wear protective against thermal hazards arising from electric arc - Part 1-2: Test methods - Method 2: Using compressed and directed arc determination of the material and clothing arc protection class (box test).

Within the scope of protective clothing tests, TS EN 61482-1-2 provides protective clothing testing services against thermal hazards arising from electric arc by our organization.
