TS EN 659 Protective Gloves for Firefighters

EN 511, a European standard, defines the requirements and test methods for protective gloves used by firefighters. Fire gloves are a very important part of personal protection equipment. These gloves must provide a high degree of dexterity and grip and do not endanger the firefighters' health.

The legal regulations in force divide the gloves into three different classes. Category I covers minor risks. In this case, manufacturers must prove that the gloves comply with the basic conditions in accordance with the EN 420 standard and are responsible for the CE marking. Category II covers moderate risks. Many protective gloves fall into this category.

These gloves must be tested for the basic conditions of the EN 420 standard and mechanical risks according to the EN 388 standard. Category III covers high risks. In addition to the EN 420 and EN 388 standards, these gloves must be tested to EN 407 and EN 659 standards for heat protection.

Gloves used for firefighting must be approved and labeled according to EN 659 standard. The EN 659 standard contains all the criteria of the EN 388 standard.
