TS EN ISO 11612 Protective Clothing Against Heat and Flame

ISO 11612, an international standard, describes performance requirements for protective clothing made from flexible materials, designed to protect the user's body from heat and flame, excluding hands. To protect the user's head and feet, protective clothing covered by this standard is only leggings, hoods and boots. The performance requirements in the mentioned standard apply to the following clothing:

  • For uses exposed to limited flame spread properties
  • For end uses exposed to radiant, convective or contact temperature, or molten metal and metal splashes

Protective clothing in EN ISO 11612 standard is produced to protect workers who come into contact with flames and at least heat for a short time. The heat generated can be convective, radiant, from molten aluminum or molten iron. The contact heat spatter as a combination of these forms. Performance levels of 1 to 4 have been established for such protective clothing: level 1 is applied for the effect of low risk, level 2 for the effect of moderate risk, level 3 for the effect of high risk, and level 4 for exposure to intense radiant heat (exception level).

According to this standard, heat resistance is measured at 180 degrees or optionally at 260 degrees. Full clothing is optionally tested to predict burns. Test results are expressed with the letters A, B, C, D, E and F.
