TS EN ISO 18640-2 Protective Clothing for Firefighters

The EN ISO 18640-2 standard, which describes the specifications and test methods of protective clothing produced for firefighters, is a European standard on its basis and has been re-published by the International Standards Organization (ISO). This standard describes a test method for detecting the thermophysiological effects of protective clothing during a series of simulated activities under special conditions. However, it is not intended to detect the risk of heat stress caused by real fire conditions.

Test results are used to determine and compare thermophysiological effects to different protective clothing and potentially protective clothing sets. Standard measurements are made on samples representing a garment or a combination of protective clothing. This test method is also used to identify more detailed protective clothing, if needed. Likewise, the test and evaluation studies of ready-made clothing products fall under this standard.

The current assessment methods have been validated only for clothing for firefighters performing firefighting activities in buildings.

In short, this standard is designed to be used to evaluate thermo. The physiological effect of protective fabric groups and potential protective clothing groups is evaluated, but there is no risk of heat stress associated with actual fire conditions. This test method has been developed for highly reproducible laboratory tests for heat and mass transfer in clothing systems under controlled conditions closely related to actual conditions.

The standard in question was published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) in our country with the following title: TS EN ISO 18640-2 Protective clothing for firefighters - Physiological effect - Part 2: Determination of the physiological heat load caused by protective clothing worn by firefighters.
