TS EN ISO 20349 Protective Shoes Against Risks in Foundries and Welding

The EN ISO 20349 standard, which describes the requirements and test methods for shoes used for protection against risks in foundries and welding processes, is a European standard on its basis and has been re-published by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Shoes produced in accordance with this international standard offer other protections defined in ISO 20345 standard. The leggings on boots and garments that are intended to protect feet and legs against molten metal are handled by the ISO 11612 standard.

Certain requirements in the EN ISO 20349 standard are: upper height, shoe design, resistance to the effects of molten metal, heat contact resistance over contact, burning behavior, thermal insulation of the sole complex, surface shrinkage of the skin, shoe removal time and harmlessness.

According to this standard, shoes must be class I shoes made of leather and other materials, with the exception of all rubber or fully polymeric shoes. Unless otherwise specified, samples to be taken for tests must comply with the criteria given in the ISO 20344 standard. If it is not possible to obtain a sufficiently large test sample from the shoe, a sample of the material from which the component is produced should be used and this should be stated in the test report.

This series of standards, consisting of two parts, has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following titles:

  • TS EN ISO 20349-1 Personal protective equipment - Protective shoes against risks in foundries and welding - Part 1: Risk protection requirements and test methods in foundries
  • TS EN ISO 20349-2 Personal protective equipment - Protective shoes against risks in foundries and welding - Part 2: Protection requirements and test methods against risks in welding and allied processes

Within the scope of protective clothing tests, TS EN ISO 20349 Foundries and welding protective shoes testing services are also provided to the enterprises by our organization.
