California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) Compliance Tests

Companies doing business in California, USA must be familiar with and comply with Proposition 1986 of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Practices Act of 65.

California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) Compliance Tests

As part of California Proposition 65 (Prop 65), the EUROLAB laboratory offers your organization analytical testing and consulting services to evaluate your products for composition and recommend a pathway for Prop 65 compliance.

The law lists more than 800 chemicals "known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive toxicity." This list is updated at least once a year. Prop 65 affects all consumer products sold or distributed in California, including textiles, footwear, hard goods, DIY, toys, children's products, stationery, electrical/electronic products, and more.

Prop 65 is a consumer “right to information act”. Unless exempted, businesses may not expose persons to a listed chemical or discharge a listed chemical into drinking water supplies without first giving "clear and reasonable warning" (Prop 65 warning).

We can help you determine if Prop 65 listed chemicals are present in your products and advise you on strategies for Prop 65 compliance. We monitor Prop 65 developments and settlements - a consent agreement between parties named in the agreement (an unnamed party in the settlement is not bound by this agreement).

As a result, we can help you do business in the state of California and keep you informed of consumer product regulatory and policy developments and enable you to implement a proactive and comprehensive compliance program for your products.

We offer Prop 65 testing for a wide variety of materials and products, including:

  • Manufacturing and construction products, pesticides and aluminum water bottles
  • Cases for cosmetics and laptops

To ensure Prop 65 compliance, companies must provide a warning unless they are confident that exposure to a listed chemical does not constitute a "significant level of risk" for cancer-causing chemicals or an "observable level of effect" for chemicals that cause birth defects or reproductive harm.
